Frequently Asked Technical Questions
Does Lumicision perform automated and robotic laser welding as well as micro-welding?
Yes. Lumicision operates multi-axis automated CNC and robotic fiber laser welding cells alongside precision microscopic laser welding stations. This allows us to execute high-volume repeatable robotic weld seams on EV battery busbars, hospital/cleanroom stainless steel furniture, and aerospace enclosures as well as delicate hermetic sensor micro-welds.
How does automated laser welding compare to conventional TIG welding?
Automated and robotic fiber laser welding delivers a heat-affected zone (HAZ) up to 90% smaller than conventional TIG welding (< 0.10 mm HAZ) with ±0.002" (50 microns) path repeatability. Because heat input is concentrated and cooling is rapid, thermal distortion is virtually eliminated—removing costly post-weld straightening and grinding.
Can your laser welding systems join dissimilar metals for EV batteries like Copper to Aluminum?
Yes. Using high-frequency programmable spatial beam oscillation (wobble laser welding) and pulse shaping, we weld dissimilar metals including C11000 copper-to-aluminum EV battery busbars, cylindrical/pouch cell tabs, and nickel-plated current collectors without brittle intermetallic phases.
Are your laser welds leak-tight, hygienic, and hermetically sealed?
Yes. Under our 9-year ISO 9001:2015 quality system and PEO Certificate of Authorization (C of A), we produce crevice-free hygienic welds for hospital/cleanroom 316L stainless equipment and hermetically sealed enclosures that pass Helium mass spectrometer leak testing down to 1x10^-9 mbar·L/s.
