Types of metal cutting tools

By September 3, 2018Uncategorized

There are different types of cutting tools ,each having different purpose and use.

1.Laser cutting

CO2 laser metal cutting technology has been well planted for

around 25 years. Technology has continuously been evolving. We are in the

midst of a major process change from C02 to Fiber Laser Technology.

  • Faster speeds and thicker materials will continue to be developed
  • Ease of use and process repeatability is continuously improving
  • Reduction of long term maintenance costs should be a major factor in

switch from CO2 to Fiber technology

  • Ability to use Fiber Laser on more conventional machine designs….as well as

for 3 dimensional structural shapes will be a major factor in change.

  • Power levels of Fiber Laser will bring productive plate thickness levels up.

2 – Water jet system:

Cutting water jet means cutting materials using high water pressure. The water, with a very small diameter, leaves it at a speed of around 900 m / s due to its high pressure, which can cut any material. With the computer’s control of this power, you can create the desired shape.

Water jet cutting machine consists of two main parts. An intensifier pump, which produces a pressure of about 40000 to 60,000 psi, and a cutting nozzle mounted on the device. This nozzle has the power of transmission in three directions X, Y, Z. So, it’s easy to do the necessary commands.

Compared with plasma cutting, laser, waterjet scores are vast. Water jet has the ability to cut a wide range of materials. For example, metals, non-metals, ceramics, non-ferrous metals, stones, leather, plastics, glass, etc. can be mentioned. A remarkable point in the development of thermal stresses after cutting in the section is that in sensitive cases is unacceptable, so using Waterjet due to cutting with water does not leave any thermal stress in the piece that is unique and very important. The economic thickness of the cut with waterjet is about 50 cm. For metals, if you need to have more thickness shear, this method is not recommended …

3- Cutting with CNC milling:

This method is also used to cut metal and non-metallic materials. Some of the features of this kind of cutting technique are:

– Flexibility in cutting. Because many CNC cutting machines have the ability to move in three dimensions, cutting and engraving with them is more flexible.

– High accuracy. The cutting accuracy of these devices is higher than all other devices except lasers.

– Suitable for drilling. These devices are very suitable for high-precaution due to the ability to drill in place and the possibility of changing their blade …

4.Plasma Cutting:

This method is used only for metal materials. The only advantage of this method to other methods is that the plasma cutting machines are cheaper than other metal cutting machines. The accuracy of this method is lower than all other methods.

5.Modern machining of parts by ultrasonic method:

Ultrasonic Machining (USM) is one of the modern mechanical machining processes. This process is used to process hard or brittle material (conductive and non-conductive), with hardness typically more than 40 RC. This machining method uses a definite tool and a high frequency mechanical movement and abrasive slurry. In USM, material is harvested by abrasive particles that are driven by a vibrating tool (perpendicular to the workpiece surface).

In USM, the principle of magnetic-length variation is used. When a ferromagnetic object is placed in a continuous variable magnetic field, its length changes …
